On Monday, April 8, millions of Americans will be plunged into darkness when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun, creating a total solar eclipse.
Sadly, students across the country are experiencing a different kind of darkness — and it’s not a celebratory one. Efforts to challenge and ban books continue to be on the rise, and devastating legislation in many communities and states are legitimizing these attacks on the First Amendment.
As you probably already know, Vonnegut was passionate about preserving the First Amendment and our rights to free speech and expression.
Your gift today honors his legacy and helps us get challenged and banned books like Slaughterhouse-Five to students whose freedom to read is being suppressed. Thank you!
"If you were to bother to read my books, to behave as educated persons would, you would learn that they are not sexy, and do not argue in favor of wildness of any kind. They beg that people be kinder and more responsible than they often are."
